COMPETITIONS
2024 FEI North American Youth Championships (NAYC)

Qualifying scores for the event may only be earned at designated USEF/NAYC Qualifying Competitions, within the qualifying period beginning July 25, 2023, and ending June 17, 2024, unless otherwise determined by February 1, 2024. Please be sure to thoroughly review the 2024 Selection Procedures.

The 2024 NAYC Application is now available on the USDF website. Applications and fees submitted online, on or prior to March 12, 2024, will be charged $50 per application. Applications and fees submitted online between March 13, 2024 and April 23, 2024 will be charged $100 per application.

Applications and fees submitted online between April 24, 2024 and May 7, 2024 will be charged an application fee of $300 per application. No applications will be accepted after May 7, 2024.

Additional horses may be added to an already received application, at no additional fee, through April 23, 2024. Between April 24, 2024 and May 29, 2024, the rider will be required to submit a $50 fee for each added horse. No additional horses may be added to the application after May 29, 2024.

USEF/USDF Dressage Seat Medal (DSM) Program

The DSM Program qualifying period is January 1 through the end of the qualifying period of the respective regional championship competition the athlete will be attending. More information can be found on the USDF website.

AWARDS AND RECOGNITION

We encourage all our youth members to become familiar with the awards and recognition programs that USDF offers. Information about our programs can be found on our website.

USDF Youth Dressage Rider Recognition Pin Program

These cold winter months are a great time to work on your education and volunteer hours! Remember that you must be a USDF member at the time you complete each of the requirements and when you submit your application. For more information about the program, please visit the USDF website.

Shining Star Program and Ravel Education Grants

The Shining Star Award recognizes outstanding sportsmanship by youth. Anyone other than the nominee’s parent may nominate a youth for this award. USDF Shining Star recipients who are USDF Participating Members will be eligible to apply for the Ravel Education Grant, which will be used to cover expenses associated with attending an educational dressage event of their choice. Up to four $500 Ravel Education Grants will be awarded each year. For more information about these programs, please visit the USDF website.

Dressage Spirit Award

The Dressage Spirit Award recognizes USDF youth members who have made a significant contribution to their local equestrian community and who promote the sport of dressage in a variety of ways. All recipients of this award will receive a lapel pin and a certificate and will be recognized in the USDF Connection and at the Adequan®/USDF Annual Convention. Youth Convention Scholarship

USDF offers up to four scholarships to help defray the cost for youth members to attend the Adequan®/USDF Annual Convention.  Please visit the USDF website for more information.  Application deadline is August 31, 2024.

USDF Nomination for USEF Youth Sportsman’s Award

The USEF Youth Sportsman’s Award was designed to develop leaders in the equine industry from all breeds and disciplines. Individuals 17 or younger, as of December 1 of the current competition year, who are active members in good standing with US Equestrian and USDF are eligible to apply. Application deadline is August 15, 2024.  Visit the USDF website for more information.

USDF/IDA National Quiz Challenge

USDF and the Intercollegiate Dressage Association (IDA) are proud to bring you the IDA Quiz Challenge for the ninth year, as part of the annual IDA National Championships! This challenge is open to all IDA members, who are also USDF members. Registration is now open and the last day to register is Friday, March 8, 2024. Round 1 of the Quiz Challenge will be open from March 13 through March 27 at midnight. Visit the USDF website for more information and to register.

USEF Lettering Program

The US Equestrian Lettering Program recognizes the achievement of students and their devotion to the sport of equestrian. The program recognizes and honors equestrians in grade 5-12. For more information about the USEF Lettering Program, visit their website.
USEF Sport Updates

Online Passport Service Application

  • USEF has launched a new online Passport Service Application to be used for services that do not require the passport to be mailed into the office including:
    1. New FEI/National Passports
    2. Revalidations
    3. Duplicate (lost) Passports
  • Through this online application, you can sign, pay for, and submit completely online through your USEF Member dashboard. You can also add Life recordings, Expedited service, and UPS Next Day Air.

FEI Registration price increase for 2024

  • FEI Horse Registration: $35
  • FEI Rider Registration: $35

  • Requirements for FEI Horse Registration:
    • All USA owned horses must have a current Life USEF recording before registering with the FEI.
    • All FEI Competing horses must have a valid passport. Initial FEI Registration requests will not be issued until the horse's passport has been approved.
  • Requirements for FEI Rider Registration:
    • All Riders must have an active, competing membership before registering with the FEI.
      • A current Code of Conduct and Waiver must be signed, and Safe Sport Training must be completed.

Influenza vaccine requirements changing for January 1, 2024

  • As of January 1, 2024, the initial primary series of influenza vaccines consists of two vaccines administered between 21-60 days apart. A booster vaccination must be administered within 6 months and 21 days of the second dose.
    • This change applies to any new primary series started after January 1, An up-to-date passport showing a primary series between 21-92 days apart and a third dose within 7 months, given prior to January 1, 2024, will still be considered valid.
